Trellix surveyed and interviewed 525 security leaders from around the world. Partnering with Vanson Bourne, we talked to CISOs in 9 countries who work at organizations that range from 1,000 to more than 10,000 employees. We spoke with CISOs who oversee SOC teams in a range of industries, including public sector, healthcare, and financial services.

Our CEO Report on Cyber Resilience draws on 37 interviews with CEOs of large global enterprises. It explores the role chief executives need to play in successfully managing cybersecurity risks. Our interviews with CEOs reveal that this shift to thinking about cyber resilience requires fundamental changes in approach: how they think about cybersecurity (their mindsets) and how they act (their playbooks).

Within this context, we surveyed over 2,000 cybersecurity decision-makers in 22 countries, working in enterprises with over 500 employees, to understand the current state of business enablement. More precisely, we wanted to identify, with data, the kinds of attributes that have a meaningful impact on business enablement, including alignment, skills, and organizational structures. In this report, you’ll get a picture of the current situation and understand some of the drivers that determine not just cybersecurity posture but also business success.

With a steady increase in cyberattacks each year and a constantly evolving threat landscape, more organizations are turning their attention to building long-term cyber resilience: the ability of the workforce to adapt, respond, and recover from cybersecurity incidents, not merely the ability to detect and prevent them. To learn more about the state of cyber resilience, we surveyed senior security and risk leaders and found that cyber resilience indeed tops their list of strategic and spending priorities for organizations in 2023, driven largely by concerns about ransomware, supply chain and third-party attacks, and coding vulnerabilities.

Executives clearly recognize the danger. Almost three-quarters (74%) of 168 executives recently surveyed by Harvard Business Review Analytic Services regard cyber risk as one of the top-three risks their company faces today, and 67% predict it will be a top three risk two years for now. Only half of respondents, however, say they are successful or very successful at generating insights and enabling informed decisions on cyber risk and at anticipating, preparing for, and responding to future cyber incidents.

The global cyber threat landscape has escalated. In this, our third Global Threat Report, we find that attack frequency has reached unprecedented levels; 90% of security professionals said the volume of attacks they faced has increased. Attackers are employing a more diverse range of tactics and techniques than ever before as they bid to extort, disrupt and infiltrate organizations.

In this year’s survey, more than 80% of respondents say they are “very” or “extremely” concerned about the threat of ransomware, yet a similar number (78%) of organizations surveyed also believe they are “very” or “extremely” prepared to thwart a breach. Despite those concerns and feelings of preparedness, half of the organizations surveyed still fell victim to ransomware last year.

Cyberattacks continue to grow in quantity and sophistication at the same time that organizations’ systems become increasingly complex. Security teams, as always, feel the stress. But a surprising outcome of our 2023 State of Security research is that the number of respondents who say they just can’t keep up has shrunk. Whether this data represents incremental improvement or a onetime windfall, organizations should press any advantage. Which won’t be easy: Most security teams tell us they’re too stuck in reactive mode to be effectively proactive.

In this third volume of the Security Outcomes Report, we break security resilience down into digestible and actionable insights. (Because we’re sure you have enough on your plate without having to crack the code to resilience on your own.) No one report can cover all there is to know about such a colossal subject matter; but we’ve surfaced some highlights for you to consider when building and refining your cybersecurity strategy for the road ahead.

The 2023 Global Digital Trust Insights in a survey of 3.522 business, technology, and security executives (CEOs, corporate directors, CFOs, CISOs, CIOs, and C-Suite officers) conducted in July and August 2022. Female executives make up 31% of the sample. Fifty-two percent of respondents are executives in large companies; 16% are in companies with $10 billion or more in revenues.

The focus on resilience is changing the role of security leaders in their organizations. These discussions vary based on many factors, most notably the maturity level of the organization. Long-established legacy orgs have a harder time adopting a new approach, be it A-driven automation, a zero trust framework or DevSecOps practices, while fresh-face startups may have never done it any other way.

This report provides insights into the causes and impacts of those stresses and also lays out some practical solutions that forward-looking organizations can adopt in to improve their security postures and cyber readiness.

Our State of Cloud Threat Detection and Response report summaries the survey responses of 400 security leaders and SecOps practitioners in North America regarding the capabilities, practices, and behaviors of protecting against, identifying, and remediating cloud-based threats. The report looks at the differences between cloud threats detection and response behaviors and their on-premises counterparts, and the connection between cloud transformation and security transformation. We conclude with guidance on how to incorporate these lessons into your company’s current operations and considerations for the future.

This annual report sheds light on the cybersecurity threats facing the financial sector. The report provides cyber ground truth, specifically manifesting an eye-opening perspective on the changing behavior of cybercriminal cartels and the defensive shift of the financial sector. In this year’s report, financial sector security leaders from around the world revealed during a series of interviews the type of attacks they’re currently seeing, what threats they’re most concerned about and how they’re adjusting their security strategy.

This first-of-its-kind report offers insight into how organizations are navigating the global cyber security threat landscape. Findings are drawn from extensive interviews with 1,350 business and IT leaders who make security decisions for organizations with at least 1,000 employees. Respondents were based in 13 countries across three regions and in 18 sectors - including financial services, healthcare and government.
