The 2023 Geography of Crytocurrency Report

The goal of the index is simple: We combine on-chain data and real-world data to measure which countries are leading the world in grassroots crypto adoption. Grassroots crypto adoption isn’t about which countries have the highest raw transaction volumes — anyone could probably guess that the biggest, wealthiest countries are far ahead there. Instead, we want to highlight the countries where average, everyday people are embracing crypto the most. To do that, we’ve designed the Global Crypto Adoption Index to identify countries where the most people are putting the greatest share of their wealth into cryptocurrency.

The Buck Stops Where?

From the report, “For years, the Finance industry has been a trailblazer in managing the risk posed by vendors, suppliers, and business partners. As we have also detailed in previous BitSight Insights reports2 over the last four years, this industry has maintained a strong security posture in comparison to others. Given that the Finance industry is a leader in managing third-party cyber risk, how secure is their supply chain, and where do weak links lie? Are the companies in their supply chain meeting the same security standards they hold for their own organization? These questions are relevant not only for Finance organizations, but for all organizations that need to reduce third-party cyber risk. To answer these questions, BitSight researchers looked at the security performance of more than 5,200 Legal, Technology, and Business Services global organizations whose security ratings are tracked and monitored by hundreds of Finance firms using the BitSight Security Rating platform. The organizations across these industries represent a set of critical vendors and business partners in Finance’s supply chain, consisting of: legal organizations, accounting and human resources firms, management consulting and outsourcing firms, and information technology and software providers.”

Quarterly Threat Report: Q3 2018

It’s harvest time (at least here in the United States), and as we prepare to reap the bounties of the land, so too have we seen attackers make good use of the exploits they’ve sown and infrastructure they’ve co-opted. The credential compromises and remote access attempts of Q2 have ripened into suspicious service logins and lateral movement actions involving credentials, along with increases in the presence of malware on systems.

Seize and Desist?

When law enforcement announced the seizure of AlphaBay in July 2017, the United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions described the operation as: “one of the most important criminal investigations of the year…because of this operation, the American people are safer – safer from the threat of identity fraud and malware, and safer from deadly drugs.” 1 The timing and coordination of the law enforcement operation, known as Operation Bayonet, was a clear success and has contributed to multiple subsequent arrests.2 Almost one year later, the marketplace model appears to be in decline, but the risks to businesses and consumers have not subsided. Instead, this paper demonstrates that cybercriminals have taken to incorporating new processes, technologies, and communication methods to continue their activities.

Whitepaper: Legislation And The Impact On Data Privacy

From the paper, “In March 2017, the expectation of privacy while surfing the internet disappeared in the United States. Congress voted to eliminate the broadband privacy rules that required internet service providers (ISPs) to get explicit consent from consumers before selling or sharing web browsing data and other private information to third parties. With no rules in place to protect personal or corporate web browsing data, there are a few proactive steps to take to help safeguard this information.”
