The objective with this research was to gather the perspectives and priorities of global IT leaders who are considering leveraging cybersecurity best practices to spur growth in their organizations. Through the survey, we were able to pinpoint areas of investment, operational challenges and potential threats while gauging an outlook on the future.

The annual Cybersecurity considerations report identifies eight considerations that CISOs should prioritize in the year ahead as they seek to accelerate recovery times, reduce the impact of incidents on employees, customers and partners and aim to ensure their security plans enable — rather than expose — the business. The ninth annual ISACA global State of Cybersecurity Survey continues to identify current challenges and trends in the cybersecurity field. For the second consecutive year, ISACA fielded questions to gain deeper insight into persistent issues in cybersecurity workforce skill sets and staffing for entry-level positions. The State of Cybersecurity 2023 report analyzes the survey results on cybersecurity skills and staffing, resources, cyberthreats and cybersecurity maturity.

The 2023 Board Perspective report shines a light on how boards are managing this evolving landscape. Our annual survey reveals the beliefs, experiences and insights of 650 board members across the globe. We analyzed their responses to get a boardroom perspective of the threat landscape, the role of the CISO and the broader world of cybersecurity. We also compared the results with CISOs surveyed in our 2023 Voice of the CISO report. Pairing the surveys helps provide a more complete picture of where CISOs and their boards are on the same page—and opportunities for better alignment.

Today, a new reality is taking shape, based on Deloitte’s 2023 Global Future of Cyber Survey, which asked hundreds of leaders across industries and across the globe to share their views on cyber threats, enterprise activities, and the future. The survey included C-suite executives across the enterprise, as well as other senior leaders with responsibility for IT, security, and risk. This new reality is grounded by the following findings.

This report presents analysis of insights gathered from 130 leading CISOs who participated in the 2023 Team8 CISO Village TLV Summit, an exclusive and intimate gathering of CISOs from global prominent enterprises, many of which are Fortune 500 companies. Expel commissioned CSA to develop a survey and report to understand better the industry’s knowledge, attitudes, and opinions regarding security’s relationship to innovation, outcomes of security-enabled innovation, and trends in cloud use. Expel financed the project and co-developed the questionnaire with CSA research analysts. The survey was conducted online by CSA in May of 2023 and received 1018 responses from IT and security professionals from organizations of various sizes and locations. CSA’s research analysts performed the data analysis and interpretation for this report.

Our CEO Report on Cyber Resilience draws on 37 interviews with CEOs of large global enterprises. It explores the role chief executives need to play in successfully managing cybersecurity risks. Our interviews with CEOs reveal that this shift to thinking about cyber resilience requires fundamental changes in approach: how they think about cybersecurity (their mindsets) and how they act (their playbooks).

Within this context, we surveyed over 2,000 cybersecurity decision-makers in 22 countries, working in enterprises with over 500 employees, to understand the current state of business enablement. More precisely, we wanted to identify, with data, the kinds of attributes that have a meaningful impact on business enablement, including alignment, skills, and organizational structures.
